A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending a smoothie bowl making workshop hosted by blogger and holistic nutritionist Joy McCarthy of Joyous Health. I’ve never made a smoothie bowl before, but after trying one for the first time, I’m hooked.
I was completely blown away by how easy it is to make one, and am glad to know the dos and don’ts. According to Joy, a well-balanced smoothie bowl contains protein, phytonutrients, good fat and fiber – and can be served in a bowl, a coconut or a even a pineapple. I bet a watermelon would serve well too if you’re extra hungry!
Here’s a tasty smoothie bowl recipe for you to try.
Coconut Crunch Smoothie Bowl
- 1 banana
- 2 stalks celery
- Handful fresh spinach
- Thumb size ginger root
- 1 apple
- 1 scoop fermented vegan protein, coconut flavour
- 1 scoop greens+O plain
- ½ avocado
- Nut milk to desired consistency
Place all ingredients into a blender and give a whirl until smooth and creamy.
Top with your choice of fresh fruit. I used banana, strawberries and raspberries. For the crunch, I added granola, cashews and toasted coconut flakes.
