Travel Log: The Windy City

I took a four day weekend trip to Chicago with my sister and I have to say, it was quite windy. Typically I shoot outfits while travelling but this time I thought I’d put together a travel log instead featuring some of favourite places that you should definitely check out if you decide to visit. I also think Chicago is highly underrated so thought I’d show some love!

summer house

We hit up Summer House Santa Monica, a cute resto with a West Coast aesthetic. It’s the perfect sunny escape in the city on a cold winter day. The menu is California inspired so I obviously had to get the avocado toast and it was beyond delicious. Probably one of the best I’ve had. Their secret ingredient: a spread of mascarpone.

If you’re not in the mood for lunch, there’s also the Market counter which features signature fresh-baked pastries, cookies, sourdough English muffins, along with locally sourced coffee and specialty espresso drinks.

Summer House was close to Lincoln Park so we decided to check out the conservatory there. They had everything from palm trees and pretty flowers to papaya trees.

After that, we strolled through the Lincoln Park zoo, which by the way is free of charge.

Sunday brunch is an absolute must when on holiday. We met up with my good friend Kenny who was also in town at Kanela Breakfast Club┬álocated in Chicago’s Old Town neighbourhood.

They had one of the best fried chicken and waffles I’ve ever had. The pancakes my sister got were also quite delicious so if you’re in the mood for a hearty meal, this spot is a good pick.

For the museum love, the Art Institute of Chicago is a must!

It also has great lighting for a quick #ootd shoot.

Here are two of my favourite pieces from the museum.

The best way to end a trip? With brunch of course…even if it is a Tuesday. The Allis at Soho House Chicago is a great spot for a filling breakfast, afternoon tea or late night cocktails. Best of all, it’s open to the public! Its comforting vibe makes you want to hang out there all day, and would be a great spot to work if you’re a freelancer.
