There’s a spectacular photo in my childhood home of me and a (former) friend wearing matching oversized denim jackets with colourful patches in a New York City ice cream shop. I haven’t owned a denim jacket since simple because I just haven’t been able to find one that’s remotely as cool.
As an adult, I can do without the patches but the key was finding one that was perfectly oversized and had the right wash. Sounds simple enough, right? Wrong! It has taken me two years but suffice to say, I’ve found the one in a “mid stone” wash, as Topshop likes to describe it.
Now you’re probably wondering what I’m doing wearing a denim jacket in the middle of June. It’s been quite cool here in London, and the classic piece has become my go-to for pairing with summer dresses.
Here, I’ve paired it with a floral pink frock I picked up at Nasty Gal and a pair of white Lacoste trainers. Did I mention I’m starting to really get into comfortable shoes now? I’m a whole new woman across the pond.
My goal is to style denim on denim look for Canada Day, which I will be celebrating The Maple Leaf – a pub in Covent Garden where Canadians can unite! But you’ll have to check back on my Instagram for that on the 1st of July.
